Over a ten year period the old Battery, the Watchhouse and grounds have been lovingly restored to their former glory. Thousands of man hours have been spent on, grinding labour in all weathers, to bring this historical building back to life. We were very proud to be featured in Channel 4's, Series 2, of the Great British Home Restoration, hosted by Charlie Luxton, during parts of the restoration of Renoir Cottage.
Historical materials have been used, such as local bricks, pantiles, and timbers, some of which came originally from ships, broken in the islands ship breaking industry, hundreds of years ago. Many hours have been spent on attention to detail, in using the correct, but labour intensive materials. This fits with both our ethos of ecological and historical detail, that this building deserves.
Although there are many modern twist, such as under floor heating, a wet room shower, complete with a HIB cabinet, which plays music via blue tooth, to a modern well fitted kitchen, with all the mod cons. This we feel enhances the building and our visitors experience. Many local artefacts, from local flagons, to hand made crab pots, decorate the interior and exterior, to tell the story of the buildings rich history.
